Womanizer Premium Clitoral Stimulator

Today we'll be talking about the Womanizer Premium! This lovely is their top-of-the-line model and was my introduction into clitoral suction toys.

Suction toys are the new kid on the block when it comes to sex toys for women. The market has recently exploded with "air suction technology" toys that stimulate the glans clitoris (the part that peaks out) without actually touching it by using an air pulse that creates suction around the clitoris. For picky clitori - like my own, this is genius.
Womanizer, a German company, despite the cringe-worthy name, is likeable. Their slogan reads "orgasm is a human right," and their website is full of humour, which I dig. I don't dig their claim that their toy provides a "1 minute orgasm;" first, there is absolutely zero way to guarantee this, and it reinforces stigma around individual rates of orgasm, desire and arousal that is damaging, sex-negative and just straight-up dumb. Like, ice cream is delicious, who wants to only eat it for one minute? You crazy?
Education Station
A quick note on anatomy - your clitoris, should you have one, functions a bit like a glacier. The glans clitoris is a pearly bulb of varying size that is visible from the outside of the body. This is the part that is usually referred to as the clitoris, but the clit includes an entire structure below the surface that actually accounts for most genital sensation. While we're still learning more about the vulva, and vagina, it is probable that the g-spot is just the subterranean side of the clitoris. Orgasms that are generated here, like most of mine, are still technically clitoral orgasms, they are just generated internally, versus externally, or some combination of both (hello hump friction). The disembodied clitoris would look a bit like an orchid, it has it's central nub, but then it has long petals that travel down either side of the vulva, sometimes reaching your vaginal opening, sometimes not. For some people with vaginas, it can be more pleasurable to stimulate just around - either just above, below or on either side, of the glans clitoris, rather than directly on the bulb itself. I recently learned that I go nuts for the spot right where my outer labia/lips meet! Who knew?! Okay, back to the review.
Hardware
The womanizer premium is a lot of toy. It is 6.5 inches long, and 2 inches at its widest point. Each Womanizer premium comes with a small, and a medium sized suction nozzles to help you get the best fit for your anatomy. The biggest difference between the two that I noticed is that the medium is deeper/longer, which seemed to create a more acute feeling of suction. That said, I found both to be a little narrow, despite having a rather petite glans. The back of the toy has three tiny LED dots, a power button, up and down buttons and a little squiggle button, and two small magnetic elements for charging.
The three LED dots measure a few things; when in use they flash each time you go to the next intensity setting, when you're charging they indicate how charged the toy is by the number of lit dots, and on auto-pilot they mark which of the three levels of auto-pilot you have selected. The squiggle button turns on the auto-pilot mode. The up and down buttons increase or decrease the intensity. I love that, unlike some toys, you can just go back to the previous intensity rather than cycling through all of the higher ones if the next jump is more intense than you anticipated. That being said, for me, the up/down buttons are exactly where I cup the toy to hold it in place or maneuver it - and I accidentally change settings ALL. THE. TIME. This, as you can imagine, drives me bonkers - and not in a fun way. The nozzle is made out of a firm, but very thin, smooth silicone. Without lube, the suction and the nozzle size actually create a light pinching that I do not enjoy, but lube remedies this problem entirely so it isn't a huge deal.
Functions
There are 12 intensity settings, which are controlled with the up/down buttons, and three auto-pilot intensity modes. Auto-pilot is a setting that sets a range of intensity for the toy to automatically and randomly cycle through; going up in intensity also increases the range of intensity, and therefore the variety of intensities. The first and least intense of the three auto-pilot setting cycles from the first setting to the sixth setting, the medium setting cycles through the third to the eighth setting, and the last, most varied and most intense setting cycles from the fourth setting to the twelfth setting. The jumps are non-linear and vary in duration. One of the cooler settings this toy offers is called "smart silence," which only starts the suction when the toy is touching your skin, even when the toy is turned on. I frequently will stop or pause use on a toy to focus on another kind of stimulation and I love that the womanizer will silence itself as soon as I remove it from my skin. This toy is completely waterproof, and rechargeable.

Play
It is incredibly hard to describe what a suction toy against a clitoris feels like, but the feeling reminds me of undertow, but in a nice, non-drowning kind of way. It is a persistent and compelling pulling sensation that can feel fantastic. The most shocking discovery to me about the Womanizer was how easily and abundantly it could make me squirt. After applying a bit of lube, I found that if I pulled back my labia to reveal my glans and placed the womanizer just right on a medium high setting, within a couple of minutes I would gush like crazy. Now, for my body, I don't really count gushing/squirting as an orgasm - it is fun, and extremely erotic, but it is extremely rare for me to orgasm and squirt simultaneously. Furthermore, on some of the lower settings, the suction is inconsistent, sometimes gurgling or hiccuping at a critical moment that originally discouraged me from continuing to pursue external orgasm with it. After a handful of uses, I managed to figure out that if I mimicked the undulating grinding motion I use when masturbating with my hand, and had a weighty insertable toy resting stationary in my vagina that I could orgasm with the Womanizer but, to be honest, that isn't what I love about this toy. I have read and listened to countless glowing reviews of this toy for its orgasm producing potential, and I can totally understand the hype - it just doesn't work as advertised for my body.

This is not to say that I don't freaking love this toy, though. I, like many people, especially those with vaginas experience arousal non-concordance on the regular. What this means is that half of the equation, sometimes it's my brain, sometimes it's my bits, are in the mood to get rude, and the other half isn't on the same page. According to Emily Nagoski in her incredible book, Come As You Are , people with vaginas only experience arousal concordance ten percent of the time. This means that 90% of the time people with vaginas are getting one message from their brain, and another from their genitals, and it is 100% normal. Not broken. Not weird. Just bodies being bodies. Which is great, and sometimes, my brain would like my genital response to get on the same page a little faster and this is where the womanizer comes in. Of course, any genital stimulation can help send blood to the area and instruct your brain to focus more closely on the sensation of the genital stimulation, but my bits can be picky and if I'm not aroused, and I'm stimulated too roughly, I'm doubly not in the mood. The womanizer is fairly quiet, and the lowest setting is just enough to feel like waves lapping at my clit, or a lovers lips gently kissing my vulva, and when this is paired with caresses or kisses from my partner the womanizer serves as an excellent tool to prepare for oral stimulation, or penetration with a penis, a toy or finger, without over-stimulating the clitoris in the process. I rarely have a solo session where I don't begin with a suction toy, just as I rarely climax with them.
Overall
I fundamentally agree that pleasure is a human right and I absolutely recommend the Womanizer premium for a whole lot of pleasure - but it might not be the orgasm deliverer that the company claims, at least not for everyone. The toy is well made, and the innovation of suction instead of vibration is totally genius but the control panel placement and the sometimes inconsistent suction earn this toy a B+ from me. I like the company, and I look forward to trying other models and other innovations they might come up with.
Happy Masturbating!
